All Asians are bad drivers.

Are they really? I myself wouldn’t call myself a great driver. I would fit right into the stereotype actually. Take, for example, my track record:

  • One car accident tailgating a senior citizen.
  • Driving on the wrong size of the road (it was only once! and it was dark!)
  • Numerous near-accidents on an occasional basis.

But to call all people of the same minority bad drivers? Because, since we Asians have genes that make us look physically alike, we also share the “bad driver” gene. At least that’s what an Insurance Fraud Ring believed. In fact, they based their whole fraud scheme on the fact that other people believed Asians are bad drivers too.

This fraud ring staged numerous accidents in Queens targeting Asian-American drivers. They hired people to crash into Asian-Americans because they thought they were “bad drivers [who] would be blamed for the accidents.” According to the NY Daily News:

Ringleaders paid their henchmen to wait for unsuspecting drivers to back out of parking lots or driveways along Northern Blvd. from Parsons Blvd. to 105th St. and then plow into them with a car full of passengers, authorities said.

The bogus “victims” would then rack up exorbitant bogus medical bills…

These medial bills totaled over $1.6 million dollars. These criminals are looking at 25 years if they’re convicted. And they better be!

What a crazy scheme. I’m surprised they’ve been able to get away for this for so long (the ring has been running since 2005). How did all these innocent Asians get charged for these crimes? I hope the ring gets convicted and gets exactly what they deserve.
