In love…with Muji

I first came across Muji a couple weeks ago when a friend took me to the MOMA Gift Shop. Half of the basement level was filled with Muji products. I was awestruck by all that it offered.

Although I’m not the most organized person, I have a strange obsession for containers, boxes, jars, etc. And I also can’t explain my desire for blank notebooks and pretty stationary. Muji has it all.

From the official website, this pretty much sums up the brand:

MUJI is simplicity – but a simplicity achieved through a complexity of thought and design.

MUJI aspires to modesty and plainness, the better to adapt and shape itself to the styles, preferences, and practices of as wide a group of people as possible. This is the single most important reason people embrace MUJI.

MUJI – in its deliberate pursuit of the pure and the ordinary – achieves the extraordinary.

A lot of the products are made with recycled paper and are earth-friendly. It’s a green lover’s paradise. Neutral tones, very simple, practical—and my favorite, very affordable.

This past weekend, while out and about in SoHo, I went to the store!

There were some pretty cool photo albums, but I have no need for them (yet) so I held back.

But I did buy an interesting business card case that reminds me of gum packaging:

And a small notebook for my chicken scratch, made with recycled paper:

My sister told me about the chronotebook, a non-linear daily agenda. People have been going crazy over it. Unfortunately, it was all sold out. Boo.

I really recommend going to the store if you have a need for any sort of notebooks, pens, stationary, photo albums, storage/organizing containers, or even just some simple clothing basics.
