Since the NBA season starts tonight, the official online NBA store decided to celebrate with a special promotion. I got a newsletter in my inbox today that “claimed” 20% off everything on the website:

And even more on the website that says 20% off EVERY PURCHASE:
Even More False Advertising.
So just as I was placing my order for a Jersey (early early xmas shopping), I noticed nothing got discounted. Nothing. So I called the 1-800 number off the site and got connected to a sales rep. I asked, “How does the discount work? I’m in the check out mode and there’s nothing there.” And you know what she said?
“Not everything on the store is 20% off. Only select items.” Really.
Apparently, you have to look for the “save 20% off” in red for select items. So why say everything is discounted? LIES. I was very pissed off because this was very misleading and a waste of my time. I spent awhile trying to pick something out and had all my info filled out just to find out this so-called promotion was “invalid”. They should have said something more like: 20% off select items.
Promotions like these just give Advertising a bad name. I’m an Ad Major, so this made me even more mad. I even sent NBA an email in response to this. Who knows if they’ll respond. Probably not.
